IDpendant – strong authentication with smart cards for Sparkasse savings banks

Unterschleissheim – Yet another client relies on IDpendant’s expertise: the Unterschleissheim-based IT experts will deliver the technology for the introduction of smart cards to Finanz Informatik, the IT services provider of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe. The convenient and secure smart card solution for Finanz Informatik allows employees of Sparkasse savings banks to access IT systems as well as buildings with a single card.
 

Registration is easy and secure

This new card solution makes it easier for users to log on to their systems. All users have to do is authenticate themselves using their smart card and PIN. There is no need to enter user names and different passwords.

In combination with Finanz Informatik's Single Sign On (SSO) solution, there is also the option of reducing and accelerating log-on processes. In addition, smart cards can be used for payment in the cafeteria and to access buildings. Digital data and money stored on the smart card are protected against fraudulent use.

Perfect integration

The card solution for strong authentication combined with Single Sign On meets two different requirements at the same time. On the one hand, the card solution creates a tight security solution with central management capabilities. In addition, secure smart cards can be personalized and issued at the banking institutions quickly and conveniently.

One data processing center keeps all our clients’ data safe

In cooperation with Finanz Informatik, IDpendant developed a customized workflow within one year. With this workflow, the card management system can be used by all Sparkasse savings banks thanks to its multi-tenancy capability. Banking institutes can independently personalize their employee IDs, issue them and manage them. Relying on a smart card reader at the savings banks, IDpendant's software transfers the cryptographically secured data and certificates created in FI's data processing center to the smart cards. Reaching this highest level of security requires almost no effort by Sparkasse savings bank employees. 

The centralized card management system was developed by Finanz Informatik in cooperation with IDpendant. This convenient solution for the management of electronic IDs and certificates can now be used by more than 400 Sparkasse savings banks.
